Blankenship Farms Pottery

About Our Pottery

Our stoneware clay is fired to cone 6 and is strong and durable. Stoneware is typically used in casual, everyday place settings. Most good-quality stoneware is versatile to use and easy to maintain. It can go in the dishwasher, oven, and freezer. It should not, however, be exposed to sudden or extreme temperature changes.

About the Instructor

Donnalee Blankenship

Donnalee Blankenship

I have always felt like a maker. I am most at home when I am working with my hands¬† and creating something. I love the puzzle of it, the focus required. The whole world shuts down during the process and it’s all I can think about.

Donnalee began taking pottery classes in 2010 at the Shelby County Arts Council in Columbiana, Alabama, with Susan Gordon. She has since studied under Tena Payne of Earthborn Pottery and teacher/sculptor Nelson Grice. Beginning with production pottery, creating functional pottery for the kitchen and home, Donnalee moved into sculpture and later on teaching beginner hand-building classes. As a former ESL teacher and Spanish professor, Donnalee loves using language and art to bring people together.
